One of the best things about living in North Carolina is the opportunity to explore a variety of landscapes without having to ever leave the state. We are blessed with an abundance of mountains, beaches, and rivers just waiting to be discovered. There’s truly no shortage of unique day trips in North Carolina, and we’ve included some of our favorites. So without further ado, here are 5 unique days trips in North Carolina that you can enjoy with your friends and family this summer.
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life as we all practice social distancing. While we’re continuing to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, we don’t expect or encourage you to go check them out immediately. These are just some ideas we wanted to share with you that you might enjoy in the future.
1. Hike the trails, camp, and swim in the lake at Hanging Rock State Park
Hanging Rock State Park is one of the state’s best-kept secrets. Located about 30 mins west of Greensboro, this state park has so much to offer including lots of hiking trails, a serene mountain lake, and camping. It’s definitely a great day trip or weekend trip if you want to stay the night and camp.
2. Enjoy the rugged landscape of Pilot Mountain
Pilot Mountain is undoubtedly one of the most memorable and unique day trips in North Carolina. To start, it's one of the last remaining remnants of the ancient chain of Suaratown Mountains. Plus, it happens to be a great destination for a host of outdoor adventures.
3. Take a dip in Lake Lure
Lake Lure is considered the “Crown Jewel of North Carolina.” This stunning lake nestled in western NC is a great day trip with stunning views. Definitely worth the drive and one you should mark off on your NC bucket list!
4. Find your own adventure at the White Water Center
When it comes to active and unique things to do in North Carolina, the White Water Center belongs at the top of the list. Located near Charlotte, this fun-filled property offers rope courses, zip-lining, white water rafting, forested trails, and mountain biking. The adventure never ends! 5. Pitch your tent and take a hike at Stone Mountain State Park
From the mountains to the coast, North Carolina has so many beautiful state parks. One of the best day trips in North Carolina is a visit to Stone Mountain State Park. There are lots of things to explore here including waterfalls, streams, and an old historical homestead.
